The Wizard (Jeff Mills)

I was much to young to drive or hang out at a club during the time this was recorded. So I spent all of my time at home taping various Detroit radio mix shows. As a little kid I was amazed to hear the turntable skills of “The Wizard”. I didn’t even know the names of most of the dance records on this recording. But I spent all my money buying the ones I did know the name of when my father would take me to the record shop. My mother would always get mad saying “you spend to much money on records”. But I was a hustler even back then I sold the Detroit News & Free Press news papers not dope! So this is one Wizard tape out of my personal collection of many.

`As a long time collector of Mojo & Wizard tapes, I gotta thank you for posting these. I’ve got about 60 hours of Mojo, Wizard, Derrick Mays, Duane “In The Mix” Bradley, etc. Excellent stuff, I love it. Please post more tapes! Let’s trade, even.
Hey Thanks Man! I have a gang of these tapes. I also have “In The Mix Bradley” but I’m trying to get a over response from the public before I just go crazy with this.
All over facebook, people are wanting to hear these shows. This is a very good idea to get folks to come to your website if you publicize the fact that you’re serving these classic sets. When money is a little less tight, I’m gonna buy a couple of the the classic CDs you’ve got on here.
OK thanks I’m working on it this site is a work in progress!!!
MORE! these mixes are great. I am sending links! nice site dj assault!
It would be cool if you could post these for download too, so i can listen my ride
Thanks!!! It’s a lot more to come it just may take a little time. I don’t own all the songs in these DJ mixes so allowing downloads might be a problem on my end.
Word. However you get it out, this stuff needs to be heard. I was too young to hear this growing up, but i love the sound. Thanks again
It’s on the way!!!
Thanks for sharing, Assault. I wish I’d saved my old tapes like you did. I’m from Michigan also (up near Flint) and about the same age as you. We used to have great radio shows here in southeast Michigan back in the 1980s. I also enjoyed Detroit radio back in the mid- to late ’90s, when WJLB and 107.9 played booty bass on Friday and Saturday nights. I was living in Ann Arbor at the time and saw you spin a couple times at the Blind Pig, back when Jon Layne was hosting that Solar night. I remember listening to your Straight Up Detroit Shit mixes a lot. Wish I still had those too. They’re collector’s items nowadays.
Yes I saved 700-800 of these tapes. The Fast and Nasty mixes is the new SUD just done a little different.

I don’t think people out side of the D really know that much about where Jeff started.
Let it be know!

Thank you for posting this mix! It doesn’t only sound great, but also might be a gold mine for music historians/ researchers. By the way: does anybody know how the track which starts at 10:21 and ends at 12:33 is called? Sorry for my miserable English. Greetings from Berlin!
